6TD Tank Engines
The 6TD is a liquid cooled, two-stroke multifuel engine with six cylinders and 12 pistons. According to the Jane’s article, the engines “ejection-type cooling system enables the MBT to operate in high ambient temperatures of up to 55°C without loss of power when using diesel fuel.”
T-80U MBT Engine
The GTD-1250 gas turbine is the main powerplant of a T-80U MBT.
The gas-turbine GTD-1250 engines having the big volume and weight power and more favorable traction characteristic in comparison with diesel engines provide to T-80 tanks: higher operational readiness; ease of start-up at low temperatures (to – 40 °C).
This engine will fit into a T-80U MBT with special tools and qualified mechanics.
6TD-2 Engines
The 6TD-2 has two crankshafts: the front one drives the mechanical supercharger, while the rear one drives the gearboxes. The cooling system covering the whole engine room, the engine itself has no mechanical connection to the cooling system, and the cooling system doesn’t need mechanical drive.
